Final Three Web Page Designs

Final Three Web Page Designs

From my previous post on the basic web design for all my pages it is clear that my three pages are a home page, an about page, and a gallery page. Some of the designs have changed from the initial designs, which is progress. So here they are...

The Home Page

I have decided to create the home page in the style of an up to date professional blog. After looking at one blog post in more detail, (by clicking continue reading,) there will be links to further blog posts related to the one the viewer just read. I have decided to put the three most up to date blog posts in sections of the three types of photography, which my company focuses on, studio and location photography, and the editing processes I go through. As well as these blog posts I have added a banner towards the bottom of the page advertising my products during the festive season, with the hope that people who like my work will purchase some of my photographs for themselves or other people for christmas. I have presented details where people can make enquiries on my home page also, because my company specialises in creating the image you want to see as well as in my own point of view.

The About Page

My about page is very simple yet informative. It explains the journey I have been through from my hobby of photography through education to setting up the company. I have placed some quick important information before writing about the company and I, because due to high demand and no patience in the modern world people need answers to their questions quickly, so I placed the most commonly asked questions' answers first in a biographical format. Then I have spoke about the company and I in further detail explaining my journey and informing the viewer about myself. At first I faced the challenge of knowing what information to put on the internet about myself without giving away too many details. i have overcome this by stating general information like the city I live in and not my address, and I decided that my date of birth may be important, however, on a Facebook account that information will be evident anyway. Also, I was thinking about every year having a special deal on my photographic works on my birthday, so this information is able to be displayed.

The Gallery Page

The gallery page is the final web design out of my three pages. My initial design showed several albums of my work on my website. However, I have decided that a simpler layout was needed, because the page became to full that the viewer didn't know where to look. I have decided to have my gallery page as links into albums containing all my photographs taken at different times in these three sections, which are studio photographs, location photographs and edited photographs. I have chosen two photographs to represent each section to give more of a varied selection in the attempt to have the viewer know where they're going and what they are able to find. The Myriad Pro regular font is used on each section for clarity and legibility. I have used two simple roses from my logo design to fill them empty space on the page, for recognisability and to fill the blank spaces, like my photography does.

Just to clarify...

My Company

My company name is Shauna Richards Photography. My logo design is my initials with black and red roses on them and the word photography in an indented font to act like thorns from a rose. I have created a recognisable brand identity of detailed, dainty photographs of flowers, and my company ethos is to present my photography in my point of view and to construct personalised photographs  to represent what other people would like to see.

My Web Design Features

I have included a home page in the style of a blog. I have a banner in the form of advertisements. After experimenting with buttons I found that a navigation bar would work better as it was simple and easy to use for the viewer. I have posted a variety of content on my web designs such as, a blog of my up to date work, some information on myself (the photographer) and the company, and a full archive of all my best pieces of work in the layout of a gallery. The colour scheme for my website follows the colour scheme of my logo, which is black, white and red. However in some circumstances pink is used instead of red, for example the five images which represent my company are black, white and pink, to create a prettier atmosphere. I have used several graphics e.g. links to other work, social network icon to take viewers straight to my social network pages, and a search bar. Many fonts such as Papyrus regular, Myriad Pro regular and Pristina regular have been applied to my we page designs.

Web Page Basic Designs

Web Page Basic Design

After a lot of editing on Adobe Photoshop, I have made my decision to stick with this design for all my web pages. This basic design will be evident on all three web page designs, because it is simple, and will be effective with a variety of content. I will add the content for the three web pages; the home page, the about page and the gallery page, at a later date after I have written up some academic blog posts for my home page, some decent information about my company and I, and chose suitable photographs for my gallery page.

My web page begins at the top with a search bar on the header of the page. I think that this is important on my page, because if there is a specific image the viewer is trying to find they can search any information about it and find links to it straight away, such as the name, date published, and labels.

Next there is my fictional media company's logo on the left and social networking icons, which will become links in the future to share my company around and get viewers who like my work to keep up to date on everything I do on social networking websites, like Facebook and Twitter.

Then I have shown 5 of my favourite photographs which I have taken and I am very proud of to represent my company. I believe that these 5 photographs show all the areas of photography I work in and act like an enigma to what else I have created. I have thought about having more of my images on this bar rotating on my active web page. However, I feel that these 5 photographs are enough, because they represent my company ethos well, which is beauty, focus, flowers, and variety. I have arranged these photographs to be displayed with even amount of space between each other and they are in an order of black and white then pink then back to black and white for a symmetrical and tidy home page display.

After that there is my navigation bar, which displays links to the home page, the about page and the gallery page. For this font I have used Papyrus regular, which is the same font as I have used in my company logo for the word "Photography". Again, I believe that this will create a recognisable brand for my company. It is amazing how something so small like the typeface can effect the viewer's thoughts on the website and the company.

Lastly there is the footer which displays that the copyright belongs to myself as the owner of the company. For the font here and the search bar, I have used Pristina regular, because it has the elegance I intend my company to have.

Experimenting with Fonts

Experimenting with Fonts

This post I will show you my progress through font design.

My initial idea was to stick with the default of "Myriad Pro". However, this font was too plain and bold, and didn't reflect my company's image at all.

My second design was "Curlz MT Regular", because it is the font I have used for my initials in my logo design. It is very recognisable, but the curly serifs are too complex for a navigation bar, because it could be difficult to read. On a pc, which is what I am designing my web page on, it is quite clear, but slightly illegible, but on a mobile or tablet, I feel it will be to illegible and will not be easy to read, which is definitely not what I intend to create.

My third design was "Pristina Regular". I chose this font, because it had a few creative serifs, but it was also quite clear and legible. It has no resemblance of my company, but it does have a handwritten look to it, which I find quite creative, which could link into my photography. One imperfection is does have, however, is the slightly messy appearance, which in my opinion, looks creative and imaginative, but to others who I have asked it looks untidy and doesn't work well with my ideas.

My final typeface, and the one I have chose to use is called "Papyrus Regular". This is the same font that the word photography is written in on my logo, so it is recognisable. It isn't that bold, but the pattern on the font is still noticeable on a big screen, which is my intention, because it reminds me of ingrowing thorns, not thorns poking out. This represents my photography, in my opinion, because I feel that my photographs allow the viewer too look further/deeper and explore my images, rather than explode on the canvas and show them boldly what my work is about. I believe my work grows on the viewer and that is what this writing represents. This font has no serifs, which makes it clear and easy to read on any screen. it still has the pattern though to show individuality.

To conclude this post, I have decided to use the font "Papyrus Regular", because it is very legible, it stands out, it is different to the norm, and it represents my work and/or company well.

Web Page Button Designs

Web Page Button Designs

Towards the end of my last blog post I suggested ways which I could improve my web page designs. In this post I am analysing my experimentations with button designs. Experimenting with buttons instead of a navigation bar is one of the ways which I intended to improve my work. My suggesting was adding the same roses from my logo design to the words on the navigation bar to create small buttons instead.

These were my results. I believe the roses add a sense of recognisability. However, when my logo will be above the navigation bar on the left this extra design may be unnecessary. The flowers make the other four corners of the buttons more pointy, which was not intended and I don't think it has worked very well. The simple capitalised font is plain and doesn't reflect my company ethos at all. So, perhaps, experimenting with font is another important experiment also.

After gathering feedback from various tutors and peers, I have decided not to use these button designs, because they are too complex for the simple web page I intend to design/create. Also, I found that many people said that the buttons were too varied, and it seemed like I didn't know what I wanted to get out of them.

"The roses are very dainty, but then you have these sharp edges that poke out, and a plain font which uses capitals, which is very alerting. What are you trying to get from these?"

I heard these points many times, but one of my peers who wishes not to be named mentioned all of them. I use the same font on the navigation bar, so I feel that my next experiment should be to experiment with fonts.

Three Page Website Designs

Three Page Website

The brief for my first assignment in Multimedia for Broadcast and Production is to design a three page website for a new fictional local media company. I have decided I am going to create a website for my own photography company "Shauna Richards Photography". I have made a logo for my company, so now I have to start designing my website.

Designing my website

Firstly, I decided to have a home page in the style of a blog, so I can update my website regularly with my new work and speak about my photographs, and my experiences and possibly give tips to new photographers put there in the world. My second page will be an about page about myself (the photographer). I think this is an important page to show on my website, because most contemporary artists and photographers do so, so I'd be following a trend, but also, because I can show that I am growing myself from a student to a professional freelancer...hopefully. To show it's possible. Lastly, I would like a gallery on my website to show my all my work in an organised fashion.

Home Page Initial Designs

These are my three initial designs for my home page. They all have the simialr content, but have different features in different sections of the website.

The first design is very structural. It is simple, and easy to follow.
The second design is logical again, however now it is in a horizontal view, rather than the stereotypical vertical appearence.
The third design is unusual with the navigation bar on the side of the website.

My favourite design is the first design, because it follows typical website conventions, and it tidy and organised. It shows some of my work on the first page, which I think is important.

About Page Initial Designs

These are my two initial designs for my about page. Again, similar content but different features in different places.

The first design has a simple structure, and so does the second design. The only difference between these two is that the first design shows examples of my work. The same examples as the home page and the gallery page. I like this idea, because viewers will find my work recognisable as myself. The intention is for people to see me and think of my photographs.

My favourite design is the is the first, because it shows examples of my work and follows the same structure as my favourite home page.

Gallery Page Initial Designs

These are my two initial designs for my gallery page. They are both very different from the past 2 pages, because they show a lot on the page.

The first design shows more of my work in folders.
My second design shows the same three examples of work continueing from the past two favourite designs of my home page and about page, but it doesnt show as much of my work as I would've liked to. However, it is still possibly if I dont aim to create all the pages the same size.

My favourite design is the first design, because it follows the same sturcture as my two other favourite pages. However, I will try to show as much of my own work as possible.

Developed Designs

Now I have chosen my favourite initial ideas it is time to add to the designs. Adding photographs and text to the design can really bring the idea to life.

These are my developed designs of my home page, about page, and gallery page. I created these designs on Microsoft Word using the tables insert.

There are aspects, which I still intend to develop. For example, I would like the example images on every page to fill the box, which they have been allocated. Also, I feel that the navigation bar could be sligtly smaller, because the black really attracts attention, and it was not intended, and I dont think it works very well. I have had to leave small gaps in places and create different tables on Word, because my iPad will not merge columns for an unknown reason.

Overall, I really like these designs, because they show all the work I intend to show, and they have a common, clear structure, which is simple and easy to follow. I feel when I make further adjustments and add in little features I have yet to incorporate into my designs such as, social network links and small roses (from my logo) to the buttons on the navigation bar, the designs will start looking like a functional website.

Developed Final Logo

My Original "Final" Logo

This was my final logo about a month ago. After collecting some important feedback from my tutors and my peers, I have decided to make a few important changes.

My peers pointed out the small, thin font of the word "photography" gives the impression that the subject is not as important as the intials, which isnt true, and was not intended. Also, the font is not big enough to see its special features, which i find quite symbolic, in my opinion.

My tutors found that there were too many flowers on the letter "S", it overpowered the letter slightly. Secondly, they felt that the two different fonts for my initials in the logo did not work, because too much attention is drawn by the bold letter "R" and all the flowers on the letter "S" not the actual letter.

I made the decission to work on the whole logo from this feedback. My intention was not to change the logo dramtically, but to adjust the little features slightly to improve the logo.

My Final Logo

This is now my final logo.

I have chose a different font for the letter "R" completely to accompany the letter "S" accordingly. I had to paint on rounded serifs on the letter "R" to follow the same effect from the letter "S". I have removed some of the roses from the letter "S", and added some to the letter "R" so they match and the flows well. I have done the same with the thorns on my intials in the logo for the same reasons.

I have kept the same font for the text "photography", because it has symbolic value, in my opinion, of the viewer sinking into my photographs. I prefer this to the alternative of my photographs grabbing he viewer and inject ing the information to them straight away. I would like people to look at my photographs, and really analyse them to find deeper meanings. I have enlarged the text slightly, and placed it more in the centre of the page so the logo is clear and easy to follow. Also, the tops of the letter "H" and the bottom of the letter "P" reach the same height as the top and bottom of the initials.

Photoshop Tutorial

Photoshop Tutorial

On Monday 19th October, my class and I had an "Adobe Photoshop" tutorial led by our lecturer Paul Appleby.

We were learning how to use basic tools on the programme, which will help us throughout our course. Tools such as...
  • Selecting/Deselecting
  • the Cropping tool
  • the Lasso Tool
  • the Eye Dropper Tool
  • the Spot Healing Tool
  • the Paint Brush and Pencil
  • the Cloning Tool
  • the Eraser
  • the Gradient Tool
  • the Text Tool
  • Zooming
I used a number of these tools on an image of myself, which is evident below.

As you can see the before and after images are quite shocking, but immediately show the techniques that can be used in "Adobe Photoshop". Firstly, I tried both the cropping tool and the lasso tool to add another eye on my forehead. I found that the lasso tool worked better, but I had to use the eye dropper tool and the paint brush tool to blend my skin, because there were different shades together. Secondly, I created a deep, mystical blue gradient to add a science-fiction atmosphere to myself looking like an alien. Next, I used the paint brush again, but used a different shape of paint brush. It almost acted like a stamp of star like shapes to my background to stick to sci-fi codes and conventions of space and stars, etc. I then used the spot healing tool to hide my spots and patches on my face which I was personally unhappy with. Also, I used the cloning tool adding a beard of my own hair to the bottom of my face. My aim was to hide my chin, but I do not think it suits me any better seeing as I am a female, and females do not have facial hair; not that thick and bushy anyway. Lastly, I added text to frighten away any "Haters" from my blog.

So to conclude, I have learnt how to use a lot of tools on "Adobe Photoshop". Nowhere near all of them, but a few to help me through my course. I have experimented on my own image with these tools, and observed how others have used these tools also. I know these tools will help me in the future and hopefully help me create something a little more professional looking than this "selfie".

My Logo

My Logo

During the past three weeks I have been developing my logo design for my own brand "Shauna Richards Photography". This is the development process I went through.

When I first got set the task of creating my own logo designs for my own brand I did not know what to do. I did not know what type of brand to create or anything. I started experimenting on a usual website called "logomakr.com". This website basically uses simple shapes and images to create small logo designs. You can also add colour and text to the design as well.

These are two initial ideas I had for my logos. "Love to Fly" was a quick and simple idea I could pursue, but it is not really a subject that I am interested in. "Dontgetshot.com" was an idea developed by myself from my friends ideas of a website with lots of silly laws and stupid ways to die, which are actually true. When doing some research on the subject there was quite a lot to include, and it was a really entertaining and funny subject, but I want my assignments to help me showcase my talents and work to the world. So, rather than creating a brand for something new and random I decided to think about what really matters to me.

After thinking long and hard about what I would like to create a brand for I decided that my photography was one of my biggest and proudest achievement so far in my education. Also, photography is one of my strengths in art and the media, so I feel that I could use this website in the future perhaps and maybe even my logo and brand image.

"Shauna Richards Photography" is the title I chose to use for my company, because it was plain and simple. For a logo, the easiest idea was an image of a flower. So I searched for different flower images on "logomakr.com" and found some flowers in beautiful shapes. I edited these images below using "Adobe Photoshop" to tint the inside of the roses red. I feel that this editing reflects the way I work in my photography, because I like to mix my images between colour and black and white.

I decided to take these images further and start adding my company name to them to create a further understanding of my logo and what it was going to represent.

From my experiments, I have found that the "Rose Circle" is too complicated to include in the logo as well as the "Floral S". I really like the "Floral S", because it could work as the letter S in my company name which stands for my own name, so I consider this image very important to the logo. I do not like the bold "Helvetica" font in the second logo evident above, because it does not represent my views on the company and on the subject. I believe that my floral photography is quite angelic and dainty just as flowers are naturally. So the aggressive bold writing does not convey those thoughts. I like the last two logos above, because they are plain and simple. Also, the font for the word "photography" in the fourth logo is indented throughout slightly, which actually reminds me of thorns on a rose, but instead of sticking out they are cut out of the font. (I need to crop the vine out of the top right corner of the forth logo if I am to use this logo.)

I was so content that I had complete my company name and logo in 1 week. However it was then that a challenge arose. Many people who saw my logo had the same comment on the tip of their tongues, which was that the "Floral S" image looked like the letter J not S. I was not happy and scraped the whole logo all together.

I decided to keep the company name, but go back to "logomakr.com" to create a few more different designs.

This first idea of a green tulip to be the logo for my company was a good idea, because it was pretty, which I thought all flowers were. Also, green represents nature. However I do not really like the colour green and I wanted the logo to not only represent the company, but to also represent my name and myself in some forms. So, I chose against this logo.

This logo is still very pretty, in my opinion. However, the font is too small. Especially if the logo was to be presented in the corner of a letter maybe. Also, the colour yellow is really bright against a white background. My eyes want to look away from the bright images rather than look in closer, so I chose against this also.

This last logo is my favourite of my new refurbished ideas for the company logo. It is very simple in black and white. The font was unusual compared to most standard company logos. Also, the simple flower sent a pretty clear image of what the subject is and what the company does. However I felt that it was missing that little hint of colour I added to my original logo for my company.

All these designs lacked the look of the iconic rose flower. I initially chose the rose to represent my company, because it was recognisable. Usually if someone is asked to name flowers the rose is one of the first flowers if not the first one named. So thinking of this I designed a few more logos including roses.

I thought the circular logo was to plain, and again the font was too small. I quite liked the other two logos I created, because they had a bit of colour and the font was interesting in both. However, they still were not perfect in my mind, because I really want to use that "Floral S" in my logo and I could not get that idea out of my head. So, after careful consideration I decided to look back at the original logo I liked and think about what I would need to edit to make it simple and what I want.

In the image above it is evident that to create the S shape highlighted on the image in red. I would have to edit the photograph to remove the top vine of roses as it became a distraction to the audience and took away the message I wanted to send. I then edited the image on "Adobe Photoshop" cropping the imaging and manually painting the photograph to place another rose in the space were the vine once was, so there was not an empty gap on the letter. The final product is below.

I am very impressed with the product now. As it is simple yet pretty. It has the hint of colour which representing my work and my character as well, in my opinion. Straight away I added this to the original text to create my company logo.

My Final Logo for my own Brand "Shauna Richards Photography".

The Cadbury Logo

The Cadbury Logo
The first Cadbury logo was commissioned in 1905 by William Cadbury. The Logo was designed in Paris by Georges Auriol. The Logo was an image of a cocoa tree merged with the company name "Cadbury".
In 1920, The Cadbury Logo became purple. A chocolate bar with a purple wrapper is indexical of Cadbury's chocolate, because the colour purple is Cadbury's iconic colour scheme.
Cadbury first used their scripted logo in 1921. The scripted logo was based on the signature of William Cadbury. However, the logo has been simplified over the years for clarity and simplicity, which are common conventions to create a good logo.

By 1952 the Cadbury logo was used across major brands.

In 1928, the "Glass and a half" symbol was introduced. The symbol was used on television advertisements, and print advertisements, such as on press and posters. The "Glass and a half" symbol is still evident on the company logo to this day.

From my research of the "Cadbury" logo, I have learnt that the colour scheme for "Cadbury" is purple and white and has been since 1920. The "Cadbury" font is based on William Cadbury's signature, and that the company most likely own the font. The demographic of "Cadbury" is a family audience, primarily children, in my opinion.

I like how the logo innovates with modern society, but it still keeps its iconic appearence to stay recognisable. For example, the colour scheme is purple as it has been since the 1920's, but the purple colour in the modern day logo above is deeper and a more intense shade of purple. The logo appears to have spotlights over areas, which suggest the logo emphasises the fame and popularity of the brand.

If I could make any changes to the "Cadbury" logo, I would keep the "Glass and a half" symbol on every product and advertisement. I feel the "Glass and a half" symbol is really important for the company, because it promotes health, especially for children, because milk has a lot of Calcium, which is healthy although chocolate is not. Its very persuasive. Also, the symbol is very nostalgic, because personally when I see that symbol on a "Cadbury's Dairy Milk" chocolate bar I think back to my happy and simpe childhood.

My Top Five Favourite Brands

Disney

Disney head quarters is situated in Burbank, California. Disney was founded on October 16th, 1923 by Walt Disney and Roy O. Disney. Disney has created some all time classic animations such as “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” and “Beauty and the Beast”.

In 1953, the Disney logo was plain and simple as “Walt Disney”; the name of the co-founder. Since then, the iconic Disney castle has been added to the Disney logo above the title of the institution “Walt Disney Pictures”. The present day logo has the words “Walt” and “Disney” removed which leaves the brand name “Disney” under the Disney castle.

The website for Disney “Disney.co.uk” is quite bland and there is lots of promotional advertising such as fancy dress, tv shows on Disney channel, and new Disney movies such as The Jungle Book which will be released in April 2016. There are links which the audience can select on the navigation bar, which can appeal to different target audiences, such as games for children, and the disney store for adults.

Disney is a very well-known brand, and it is one of my favourites, because it is everywhere. There is no getting away from such a big institution. In my opinion, if anyone says they don't like Disney then they are wrong, because Disney has such a wide range of multi-media products including films, tv, games, merchandise, etc. Disney has made a huge impact on my childhood with classic film products including “101 Dalmatians”, “Lady and the Tramp”, and “Lilo and Stitch”; my personal favourite being “101 Dalmatians”. I have a personal connection with this film, because I love the dalmatian breed of dog.

Marvel

Marvel was founded in June 1998. Its head quarters is currently situated in New York City. The most well-known figure of the company is Stan Lee who is the chairman of the institution. Many people know Lee due to his common appearances in his products, mostly films. Marvel create media products across film, animation, and comics.

The Marvel logo has basically stayed the same over the years with slight configurations, such as the use of moving comic pages in the background of the title. The logo has a bright or sometimes deep red background depending on the product. The title “Marvel” is entirely in capitals and is bright white. This allows the brand to stand out and grab the audience's attention from the beginning, and stick a simple and memorable image in the audience's  heads.

The website like the logo is very “in your face”. New products are big in the centre of the page to grab the audience's attention. The navigation bar at the top of the page is standard and easy to use, which is vital for its audience. Banners at the bottom of the page allow the brand to advertise its products further.

I am a huge Marvel fan. Primarily of the films, however I also like some of the games, such as “Lego Avengers”. Since I was young I was excited by Marvel films my first being “Spiderman” in 2002.  My favourite Marvel product is the film “Avengers Assemble”, released in 2012, because I love the narrative of many superheroes working together to save the world. I believe it promotes  a good message.

Cadburys

Cadbury was founded in Birmingham in 1824 by John Cadbury. The Cadbury headquarters can now be found in Uxbridge, London. Back in 2011 Cadbury were making a revenue of £11,346,002,000.

The Cadbury brand has been around for 191 years, so the logo has changed many times over the years, as expected. Between the 1860’s and the 1900’s the logo was the “Cadbury” title in capitals in a variety of forms. During the 1900’s to the 1950’s the logo was developed a lot. At one point the “Cadbury” title was written high up on a wall with a child on a ladder besides the title trying to grab it. Another logo showed the “Cadbury” title written in fine calligraphy featuring the y end in a tree form which could signify the natural ingredients of the products possibly. From 1952 to this present day Cadbury’s logo has been the title of “Cadbury” in a purple swirly font. The brand Cadbury is strongly associated with the colour purple due to its wrapping and the purple logo.

The website for Cadbury is very attention-seeking. The obvious aspects from the website, which are evident in the website below are the big images in comparison to the lack of written communication, the small navigation bar, which include links to social media sites, and the interactive feature “New Recipes”, which allows the audience to create their own desserts using Cadbury products.

I like Cadbury’s chocolate the best, because there is something for everyone, such as chocolate with jelly and marshmallows and other sweets, fruity and nutty bars, and theres always plain dairy milk. I feel Cadbury is a brand that everyone can trust, because they have been around for so long and they are still the second biggest confectionary brand in the world.

Converse

Converse was founded in February 1908 in Malden, Massachusetts by a man called Marquis Mills Converse. The Converse headquarters is situated in Boston, Massachusetts currently.

The converse logo hasn’t altered that much over the years. The brand’s logo consists of a star as the main image with the title alongside the logo. The star is usually in a circle, and it is black or in some cases navy blue. Another form of the logo is evident online where the star shape is cut out of the O in the title “Converse”.

The Converse website has stuck with a black and white colour theme, which is simple and formal. Also, Converse doesn't have an iconic colour, so the black and white is basic and reinforces this. The central images, header, and brand titles towards the bottom of the page promote the brands and advertise Converse’s products and the benefits of online shopping. The word “Customise” in the navigation bar will really excite converse fans, because they can have the products they like with their own touches, creating the feel that the product is truly theirs, when in fact the company still produce them but to their standards. Also in the navigation bar there is a mens, womens, and childrens option, which suggests the brand creates products for a wide audience reaching all ages and genders.

It is evident that there is a lot of competition in the modern world. It is said that there are “Converse” fans and “Vans” fans, but the audience cant be both. Personally I am a Converse fan, because they do footwear in a variety of colours and styles which suit me. However, I also know people who are “Vans” fans who say the same thing. I feel it just depends on your personal taste. Also, I really like the Converse logo, because I like the star shape.

BBC

The BBC was founded on October 18th, 1922 in London by John Reith. The British Broadcasting Corporation is a public service broadcaster, which means that the audience pays a television licence to watch the BBC. The BBC headquarters is in the Broadcasting house in London. However, there is also BBC Cymru which can be found on Roath Lock in Cardiff Bay. The BBC has presented a variety of educational and entertaining programmes, such as “Eastenders”, “Doctor Who”, and “Newsround”.

The BBC didn’t have a logo until 1958. Before the BBC had a logo they used their “Coat of Arms” as official documentation. Since 1958, the BBC have had five different logos. All the logos consist of the title of the brand “BBC” in blocks, however all five logos have different features. First the letters “BBC” were italics. The second logo had slanted blocks, which the “BBC” title were in. The third logo blocks were rounded off. The BBC’s forth logo’s blocks were slanted and had lines of colour underneath them. Lastly, the present logo of the BBC is standard blocks with standard lettering.

The BBC website shows very general content. There is a range of sport, news, weather, and the audience can even select more on the navigation bar or search for something if they cant find what they are looking for. This shows how the brand try to reach out to a wider demographic by posting varied content, so there is something for everyone. The audience can sign in to the BBC website for a more personal and interactive website, which shows there favourite and specialised posts. Also there is “BBC iplayer”, which is an on demand service provided by the BBC, so the audience can catch up on tv programmes they have missed online.

The BBC is one of the most well-known brands in the UK. I really like the BBC more than ITV, because they educate and inform me as well as entertain me. My favourite TV show is “Doctor Who”, which is created by the BBC. I also enjoy watching “Eastenders” from time to time, because they exaggerate real issues and really connect with the audience emotionally at times. The BBC doesn’t only create TV shows I enjoy, but they also created “BBC Bitesize”, which is an educational website for younger people to help them with their studies. I used to use this a lot when I was young and it really helped me. I feel it is a fantastic service to the society.
